Italian language schools are most definitely not within everyone’s budget, especially those that are actually located in Italy. Finding a school that will accept you without any type of previous learning experience isn’t difficult, but once you have paid for a series of classes or an immersion language course you end up rather bound to the “ideal” rate of learning.

So, let’s say you’ve scrimped and saved and finally came up with the funds (between $1500 and $300 for immersion learning, plus airfare) and headed off to the Italian language schools that were earmarked with stars on the web page you found. You are expected to stay with a family during your course of study if you’re choosing immersion. This can be a benefit or a detriment, but you won’t know until you get there.

If you are an “average” learner then you will most likely get the most out of the classes. If you happen to learn languages quickly or you are more like me and need a little extra time to digest the information you’re not going to get quite the bang for your proverbial buck.

Here’s an interesting little bit of information as well. Just because you’re excellent when it comes to the English language doesn’t mean that you’re going to be a whiz kid when it comes to other languages. Knowing the difference between a dangling participle and a displaced preposition doesn’t mean that you’ll be heading the department of education at Italian language schools.

Most gifted English speakers became gifted over time, with development, and because it was their native language. Italian and English do not keep the same rules, and therefore knowing a great deal about one can influence your ability to see the ease of another. Italian language schools can be a very expensive way to find out that you’re only truly particularly gifted at your own language.
